Comments: Good Day - I am putting together a book of all the former Yarmouth County residents who have left to join the RCMP. So far I have a list of 93 names, but I think there are prabably some of the earlier ones that have not been identified as yet. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks - Gil

Comments: I am trying to trace my loyalist ancestor Samuel Brown Sr whom i believe came first to Nova Scotia and then Ontario. I have found a record on the LDS site stating his son Samuel Brown Jr was born in Central Chebogue 15 Mar 1795 and married Mary Haley born Central Chebogue 1800 and raised their family of 12 children there before moving to Ontario about 1850. Are there any geneologists there who could help me out.It would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: I am a fisherwoman and a shark lover and wanted to know a little more about the story so I googled and your site came up. I know nothing about the areas they were talking about so nothing about the towns really tipped me off that this was a gag. The sotry itself warrented more investigation. It goes to show you can't believe everything you read on the internet. I'd sure like to know the real fishing story(Are there real fishing stories?)that involved that shark. I bet it was a blast!
Webmaster Comment: I have been recording the spread of this or the past few years. Results on www.yarmouth.org at: Urban Legend based on 2004 Shark Scramble Catch.

Comments: What a great site if you're looking to get a feeling for the history of the area. I think the maps should be more accurate so one can actually visit these places with some confidence given highway names, modern village names, etc. Otherwise, what a nice, quaint site. (The webmaster aught to respond to his/her email!)
Webmaster Commment:  Sorry...  I checked throught the last few months of email (over 15,000) in case I missed your email, but I did not find one.  Please send again and put YARMOUTH in the subject line.   If you made a request in this GuestBook: I post the request but do not usually answer as I hope others will.  )

Comments: Greetings!
I guess we're related.  My first grandfather was Reginald Surette - grandmother remarried in the early 40's to Peter Muise.  I am interested in Surette Island and my history.  My father worked in Canada in the 70's & 80's, but I never was able to get there.  He is in his mid-70's now.  Also recently found out about the Surete de Quebec - interesting to discover that I have an entire additional family in Canada that I'm just now discovering.  So, what is the best month to drive up there from Boston?  Any special routes you could recommend?  Looking forward to getting up there - hopefully soon!  Kind regards all

Comments: Thanks for your site, as I am researching my family connections and the relevant history in Nova Scotia and the U.S., and Canada from the settlement of the Loyalists in Nova Scotia to the 1840-50's when my ancestor left your shores. I am researching my great, great grandfather George Gavel's journeys at sea, as his uncle's? ship's second mate? (midshipman) and his life after he reached our shores in Australia. I am looking for ships records from the Loyalist settlement to the 1840-50's from Yarmouth and other ports of Nova Scotia which were trading throughout the region and further afield.

Comments: Hi, I just put up a 1939 home movie of Yarmouth on Revver.com. This film was digitally transferred so you can see it online. I am certain the fishermen in this film can be identified by the name of the boat they are fishing from. The name of the boat is "Wedgeport" from out of Yarmouth. In the film you can see them fishing for tuna. This film is a time machine and I hope you enjoy it! Here is the link to watch it:

Comments: I am from Cape Island and was a loyal member of Uncle Bob's Birthday Club (although I no longer have my membership card) on CJLS. Uncle Bob always said in his program......" And many happy returns of the day." I don't think I figured out what he meant until I was 30 years old.

Later I had my first job as junior at the Royal Bank on Main Street and lived at Ellis Lodge 555 Main Street with a whole bunch of interesting characters, Bobby Cushing, John Cooper and others.

I 'learned' to play golf at the Yarmouth Golf Club and had a lot of fun playing badminton at the HS.

My favourite memories are of Friday night pizza parties at the penthouse on top of the Post Office building in the early 60's.

Comments: I am the photographer who shot the picture of that shark on the forklift three years ago and have watched the wildfire circulation of my work with both amusement and alarm. It's been an excellent example of the unimportance connected with who shoots a notable image.
I have tracked down all unauthorized uses of it on the Internet (at least two dozen that I know of) and contacted webmasters requesting they add my name as the photographer. Thankfully, almost all have complied, including the owner of this website. Why are things like this important to photographers of powerful photographs?
I own the original high res version of this file and continue to be contacted for its use by publications and film companies. It has appeared in Maxim, the L.A.Times, Prank Patrol and several sports fishing magazines.
This shark continues to live.

Comments: My great grandmother was a Kavanagh of Grandique Ferry. My great great great grandfather, Daniel Kavanagh Sr had two land grants at what is now Louisdale, right along the river and extending to Lennox Passage.  he then purchased land at what was to become Grandique Ferry and he was the originator of the Ferry to Ile Madame. I have visited there during my genealogical research and Grandique, and Lennox Passage are just beautiful, as is Ile madame and the entire area. We met many friendly people there and do hope to make a return trip there someday.
