Date: 7/11/2002 Name: Jean Simon Location: Huntsville, Alabama E-Mail: Rjmsimon@knology.net Comments: Hello, I'm a remnant of those MacKinnons who disappeared from the Argyle, Nova Scotia area. I'm the great-great-great granddaughter of Lt. Col. Ranald McKinnon/MacKinnon of Argyle, as follows: Rosamond Jean MacGregor6 Simon (Mrs. Jack Edward Simon of Huntsville Alabama USA); Dr. Judson Stewart MacGregor5 of Milton & Boston Mass. USA; Elizabeth Maria Hatfield4 called Bessie {Mrs. Peter Stewart MacGregor of Tusket NS & Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada); Eleanor Jane MacKinnon3 called Jane & "Gramma Jake" (Mrs. Jacob Hatfield of Tusket, NS); Major John MacKinnon2 and his 1st wife, Elizabeth Frost of Argyle NS; and Lt. Col. Ranald MacKinnon1 & his wife, Letitia Piggott of Argyle NS. I loved reading your history of Argyle, and especially about my MacKinnon ancestors. We have never been able to prove, so far, by any document that Lt. Col. Ranald McKinnon was born on his grandfather's chiefship estate in Strathardill, Isle of Skye, Scotland, or whether he was born on his father's estate at Erray House, Mishnish Estate, outside Tobermory, Isle of Mull, Scotland. I have been to the Mishnish Estate and even stayed overnight at it, one or two nights, when it was a Bed & Breakfast owned then by the Gardners, husband an architect from London, England, in the 1960's, probably 1965 or 1966. The Mishnish Estate is now owned by MacLeods, who, I hear, don't want to be bothered with strangers or tourists on their estate. Lt. Col. Ranald MacKinnon's father was Ian MacKinnon na Mishnish (of Mishnish), and Ranald's paternal grandfather was Lauchlan MacKinnon, 28th Chief of Clan MacKinnon. I delve heavily into genealogy, but I have not been able to trace the family of Ranald's wife, Letitia Piggott very well. I haven't identified a Major Piggott as her father, though we have found a William Piggott, innkeeper, in Halifax, as probably her father. Letitia had a sister whose first name I forget, and I believe I found that her mother's name was also Letitia. Any information you or others may give me about the Piggotts will be most gratefully received. Please write me at Rjmsimon@knology.net Thank you very much. Jean MacGregor Simon

I resided there until 1969 when we moved to Ontario. My grandparents
lived in Port Saxon and Cape Breton. Yarmouth and Nova Scotia itself,
still have a very warm place in my heart. My parents continue to
"summer" in Port Saxon in my grandparents home. I do visit as often
as I can but not often enough! It sure is great to "get down home".
Thank you.

Date: 7/19/2002 Name: Alex Coulstring Location: Halifax NS E-Mail: alex@infernoracket.com Comments: Hi. I been up in Halifax now for about 9 years. But I was
born and raise until I was 16 here in Yarmouth. Of course not growing up
much in my teens to legal drinking age. I never got to know the bars in
Yarmouth. I have an established band up here in Halifax and we play live
all the time. What I was wondering is where can my band play in Yarmouth.
I heard the RED KNIGHT is suppose to be good. I tried emailing them and
never got a reply. I really would like to hook up a gig at my hometown.
You can visit our site at http://www.infernoracket.com for more info. Thank
You. Alex Coulstring. PS I would have been class of 95 if I stayed.
Date: 7/20/2002 Name: Tom Lanagan Location: Richmond Virginia E-Mail: tlanagan@att.net Comments: I've been working on my genealogy and have enjoyed linking
up with my Acadian cousins up in Tusket Wedge & Eel brook. My family
very much enjoyed our trip to Nova Scotia and exploring Yarmouth in '96
and plan to return for your next family reunion. I'm descended from Leon
Pothier and Rosalie Thibodeau through David Pothier and Josephine Boudreau
through William Pothier (Porter) (my great-grandfather who emigrated to
the States in the 1890s.
Date: 7/21/2002 Name: Keith Roberts Location: Lethbridge, Alberta E-Mail: keithrob@telusplanet.net Comments: Just excellant. I became aware of these pages from a copy
of the Quince Tree brochure sent to my brother (Earle Roberts) and his
wife Ida (Wyman) Roberts by Willetta Raynard. My brother ,Earle, was born
on the lower end of Roberts Island (the old Lee place)in 1919. I was born
in Glenwood(by looking out of our living room window we could always see
the " Ricker House"..In fact the long distance picture of the Quince Tree
on the brochure was taken from down at the shore from the house I speak
of (where I was born) The house where I was born is rapidly falling down
and is located in front of the Davidson place in Glenwood. Ida ( Wyman)
Roberts was from Brooklyn originally.Brings back wonderfull memories. It
is so heartwarming to learn that this place is being put to such great
use...CONGRATULATIONS............
