But my dear dad left his heart in Nova Scotia he too being born in Yarmouth County, George Sweeney, son of Percy and Eva. He was raised by his grandparents, Oscar and Mabel most of his life but had much contact with his parents and 2 brothers hugh(gard)and bernard. My dad longed to go back to Yarmouth area. Sadly he waited too long... he has been ill for several years with Alzheimers Disease. He lived with me and my family for nearly 3 years and now is just 15 minutes away in a nursing home...a dreaded thing to have to do to any human being. He is 84 years old this year and knows me as someone of great importance to him... but show him a picture of Cape Forchu or ask him where he'd like to go for a trip and he's right back down home. Some of us left in the Sweeney clan are embarking on searching out more about our roots in the near future..we have a ton of photos, little info as to identification, but he did do some journalling and spent untold hours painting and sketching maritime scenes.. would like to share some of his talents and legacy sometime after what they call "The Long Goodbye " as the illness is appropriately labelled.

is due to finding that my husband's great grandfather, Edward Andrew Crosby
was born there. Edward's parents were Edward Crosby (son of Ebenezer Crosby
2nd.) and Margaret Scott (dau of John Flavel Scott). They had 10 children,

Peel and grate potatoes. (no
set amount 5 pounds + should be enough.
Next you add whatever spices you like. Onions, garlic, sage, { Salt and pepper are key ingredients} You can be creative. This Blend can be fried into Rappi pancakes. Or you can go one step and bake it. Chicken I find is the best. In fact a boiled stewing hen in sage or tyme etc. is in my mind the best flavour. Even if it takes a long time to cook. Here is where a pressure cooke comes in handy. In which case you could replace the water with chicken broth, or both to equal amount removed. Note: Liquid must be very hot when you blend it into the potato mixture. Mix chicken and rappi. Grease pan pour in mixture. My next door neighbor has a pan that is almost two feet square and for inches high, but any high sided pan or pie plate will work. Cover top of pie with pork fat {I
prefer}, or bacon.
The consistancy of the pie is determined
by the amount of broth ratio, size and thickness of pan and then time and
temp cooked. But in my mind there is no way to rune it. On
of my favorites was to make it really thick so that when cools it was stiff
enough to cut into 1/2 inch slices and I would then fry it like bacon for
the rest of the week. However, I do not know anyone else that likes
it that way. Some people like it very runny.
