was named after a place called Overton in Great Britain-- And from the
tone of the message, anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant and uninformed.
The point is that yes, Overton, Yarmouth county, COULD have been named as the person said. Where is the evidence? Thinking something does not necessairly make it true. While we are at it, where did the name for the town of Yarmouth come from. I have also made this challange before, in the Vanguard. No one replied. This stuff is part of our history, I really don't understand the lack intrest. I would like to thank the person who did respond re the Overton name Issue. It made me dig deeper than I might have otherwise. I learned quite a bit about the name Overton.

Short version on how west penn financial scammed me... I was pricing around for a home loan for my first house here in Pittsburgh
and had the unpleasant experience of using Northwood reality to acquire
it. I originally went through the company suggested by Northwood (West
Penn Financial) and the company advertised that if they couldn’t get me
the loan then I would not need to pay a cent but I needed to give a few
hundred dollars hand money incase I did go through them and I was assured
3 separate times that the check would not be cashed unless they can get
me the loan and I o.k.’d it first. Well you guessed it, West Penn Financial
cashed the check and took a percentage of the money for themselves for
wasting their time on me and refused to give a refund and said they never
claimed they wouldn’t cash the check... Now keep in mind I check rates
with 5 different companies other then west penn financial and all required
a check for hand money but only West Penn Financial (the ONLY place that
didn’t approve me for a loan by the way) cashed their check and charged
for their ridicously below par services and treated me like I was leper
because I didn’t qualify for a loan from their company and refused to give
me back my hand money and stole it from me... Bottom line, don’t use Northwood
reality or West Penn Financial!!!

trips over on the Scotia Prince. I always enjoy my visit, wandering
around the grounds, visiting the craftshop in the lighthouse and viewing
its history and I never leave without a visit to the gift shop. The
Friends of the Yarmouth Light Society have done a wonderful job maintaining
this beautiful sight.

I note from another part of this site that the family of Ralph Cossar (who sadly was killed in WW1 aged just 17) may originally have been called COSSABOOM. Nevertheless I know there are COSSARs in Newfoundland who came originally from SW England, and I am especially interested in discovering whether there is a connection between the two family groups.
