Comments: Hi. I've visited the maritimes more than a dozen times, starting from early childhood, but never made it to Yarmouth unfortunatly. Lately I became more and more interested upon finding out that the frost-free growing season there is about 6 months long. Is that true? What are the approximate dates of the last spring frost and first fall frost? How does that compare with other areas of Nova Scotia? Any info on frost dates/growing season would be much appreciated.

Herb

My son will be working in your area for approx 6 months from the middle of October to the middle of April 2005 and since neither I nor he have ever been in your area I just wanted to see what interresting tidbits I could find. Yarmouth seems so far from Moncton! Well I must go check out what I can find in your site. Thanks in advance

Comments: Hello,

I was born in Yarmouth General Hospital in 1961.  I lived in Pembroke until I was 11 yrs old.  My dad was Jack Bielby and my mom is Thelma Bielby (nee Comeau).  There was also my brother Gary Comeau.  We lived across from the shore road.  Lucy Jarvis painted my portrait also.  I have lost track of where it is and would love to know it's where abouts.  My best friend when I was there was Susan Cushing, daughter of Wayne & Fran.  My son is doing a project on Yarmouth because that is where I am from.  That is why I found your site.  Keep in touch.  Thank you.

Bernie

Comments: We recently vacationed in Nova Scotia. On our last day in your wonderfull province, we ended up getting stuck in a ditch one hour before we were scheduled to board the Bar Harbor Fast-Ferry. Many of your kind local residents stopped to offer assistance and advice. Almost all recommended we call Ken Gillian. We did. Ken promptly showed up with his tow truck, lifted us out of the ditch and had us on our way in short order. We would like to thank everyone involved, especially Ken Gillian. Thank you all !-Bob Randall,Joan Raabe,Princess and Bubba

Comments: Hello Everyone,

I am from Yarmouth, I moved to St John's about a year ago.  I love it here but I do miss Yarmouth sometimes!  I think most of all I miss Port Maitland beach.  There are very few sandy beaches here, I never realized how lucky we are to have a beach like that.  Hope to see everyone some day soon.  Cheers!
PS GJ you rock!

Hi Lisa -would have sent you an email but .....no address..  Hope things are going well.  Put on a bit of weight and am doing more rolling than rocking. :-)   GJ

Comments: nice shot of the bridge.
I'd like to find a detailed list of all road names, including the tiny littles one's and spots complete with local nicknames.

webmaster Comment:
There are two maps that I have.  The first is the Dept. of Highways that has all roads but it does not have the newer names.
http://www.yarmouth.org/villages/r-maps/index.htm
The second is a diagram of the roads that I am working on based on the first but I am in the process of driving through the county and updating names.
http://www.yarmouth.org/villages/maps/t-map1e.gif
The maps are very large and if using Internet Explorer you will have to click on the bottom right corner to enlarge

Name: Ronald Brown "Rob" Moir
Location: Massachusetts
E-Mail: robmoir@tiac.net

Comments: I enjoyed Dr. Farish's Medical Biography of the Bond-Farish Family.  He neglected to mention that Dr. James Bond and Deborah Tooker Bond had six children: Deborah born 1814, Stephen b.1815, Anne b. 1818, Elizabeth b. 1820, Norman J. b. 1822, and Maria b. 1824.  Elizabeth Bond married Yarmouth's genealogist George Stayley Brown on April 23, 1856.  Their granddaughter Elizabeth Anna Brown married John Arthur Moir.  The Bond medical legacy is alive and well in their grandson Dr. Alex Moir.  Alex's brother, James Bond Moir is a boat builder.
With enough time, the apple falls close to the tree.  Dr. Moir's fourth great grandfather was Dr. Richard Fletcher of Yarmouth.

George Stayley Brown's paternal grandparents Janet Balfour Abercrombie and John Brown came to Yarmouth about 1800 from Draffan, a village twenty miles south of Glasgow, Scotland.  Brown's maternal grandparents were among Yarmouth's first settlers, Mary MacKinnon (daughter of Ranald MacKinnon) and Dr. Richard Fletcher.
Deborah Tooker's grandparents came to Yarmouth as Loyalists during the Revolution/Rebellion. Margery Hatfield and Jacob Tooker, 2nd from Elizabeth Town New Jersey, and Lois Butler & Benjamin Barnard from Connecticut.

Thank you for the maps.I am an artist in my last year of college and my graduation work has been all about Carleton landscape - abstract. Anyway, if Temperance was Carleton's name for a while that would be a great name for my show. Fingers crossed.
