Comments: HI,
I'm from Annapolis Valley, NS, and would like to thank those responsible for correcting the false information on an awasome atlantic predator. First off, although we do have Great Whites off all the coast lines around Nova Scotia in mid to late summer (considered rare though), the shark pictured (probably caught off the southwestern part of the province) is not a Great White at all, its a shortfin mako. I have to agree with the bottom statement on the catch being almost ashame seeing as how she is obviously successful at surviving to attain such a large adult length.

Hi Godfrey;
Got this from Peter Kenney, now living in Kentville. Peter managed the Brunswick bowling alley for a number of years. I went to YCMHS with him. Thought this might be something you could put somewhere on Yarmouth.org. Looks like late 40's or very early 50's. I think I recognize only one or two of the students, one I believe is Terry Ryan of the Ferrari's R&R Band fame.

Comments: Stumbled upon this site while surfing the net. Funny how a story can get bent out of shape so badly. I am from the Yarmouth area and was in Yarmouth that day. It was quite the sight to see that shark up close as the pictures barely do it justice. Also there is the fact that all sharks caught in the shark derby were mako's and no great white's were caught.

I wasn't going to brush it off completely because I saw a photo at the BC Sportfishing Museum of a 15 foot long Great White caught in the 1930's I believe. It was caught in the Fraser River right about where the George Massey Tunnel is now. After seeing that, I pull my crab traps in carefully!

Comments: I showed the email and pictures to my wife & right away she pronounced "...that's crap."  I went back to the  pictures and noticed the "902" area code on the crane.  Knowing that B.C. is "604" I became suspicious as well.  Eventually, I found this site.  Today, I got the email again from a friend in Vancouver BC.  It's the same goofy story about dragging the boat, but at least it takes place in Nova Scotia this time. . . and the shark was changed from a Great White to a Mako.

Was visiting my parents in Carleton in November. I attended the November 11th. service at the Carleton Cenotaph. I was impressed with the students from Maple Grove School that participated in the service. They did an excellent job! Was nice to see Joey Bishara as it had been a long time since we met.
I was also pleased to lay a wreath on behalf of my four Uncles from Yarmouth. They all served in the military.

Comments: I would just like to say that my father has been a part of the Recycling Plant pretty much since it first opened. For years, he worked for R & D Harris Escavating, and then got transferred over to H & H Recovery Ltd. My opinion on that place closing, well, it isn's a good one. My dad's life has revolved around working for those people, and personally, the way they look at "saving money" is just going to cause everyone else hardship and well...what else will they be able to do...I am saying that for much of my life, I remember him working his ass off for those people, and still does. And really he doesn't say much about the shit they put up with. And yet for as many years as he has been working there, he is still getting paid pretty much the same as everyone else. Why, might you ask, cause my dad actually comfortable at the stage in life that he is at, and having his job is more important then not having it. He has worked hard for what he has, and for what he still intends on accomplishing in his life. I am so tired of other people thinking that it is ok to lay off people and close down big businesses in our town just because they don't want people in our community to have a life. Yes, have a life. You want to save money, so it is ok to make sure everyone else has none. Do you honestly think our government is able to help these people who have dedicated most of their time and energy in working in a place like that. Not everyone works for something to do, they do it because they have to survive. Yarmouth was once a large "booming" town. Stop worrying about cutting out jobs that are worth something to our community, province and country, and consider the fact that bigger grocery stores are not always what people need. without other jobs, no one will be able to shop in them now will they!. Your not just affecting those people that work there, you'll be runing familes and homes.

Comments:  Happy Easter to my family and friends, looking forward to being in Yarmouth April 23,2005 as my brother Bill and My sister in- law Elaine will be renewing their wedding vows, They have been married 30 years. It nice to come home for gatherings,and not just come home when there is a illness or death.
I have a site with pics in them

Comments: I happened to find this websight after typing D'Entremont into a google search. (just for fun) My, there was far more D'Entremont information than I could have ever expected. My maiden name is D'Entremont and my relatives live in Pubnico. My grandparents moved to Mass from Pubnico many years ago. As a child I can remember my parents packing all 5 of us kids in a station wagon and taking a two day road trip to Pubnico to stay with relatives. (boy my parents were brave) Seems as though the whole town was related to each other. I have very fond memorys of those times. I have not been there since I was 15 years old. (I am 45 now)Thank You for allowing me to share my little story and thank you for the websight. It brought a smile to my face.

Comments: I received an email (day before April Fools Day) that placed the catch near Ocean Shores WA.  Thought it unlikely that a crane located in Washington state would have a Prince Edward phone number on it, so I called the sender on it.  He replied with the link to this website.
