Name: Bob Goodwin
Location: St. Louis, Missouri
E-Mail: robert.e.goodwin@boeing.com

Comments: My father Eldred Goodwin was born in Argyle Sound. Later his parents built a house in Pubnico, the one on page 1044. I visited that house every summer when I was a child - from 1938 to maybe 1948. My last visit to Pubnico was in 1953. I see my grandparents' home is now a Bed and Breakfast. The building on page 1043 was a gas station/garage/welding shop operated by my uncle - Maynard Ross Goodwin. He, wife and son Gilbert shared the page 1044 house with my grandparents
William and Ina (Spinney) Goodwin. William was captain of a fishing schooner.

Comments: Visited Yarmouth when I was 5 (1961)and again when I was 7 (1963) years old. My dad, Joseph Donald Deveau was from Yarmouth and had a sister named Phylis. I remember meeting a Susan Deveau (I think we got engaged that summer)and an Alfred. Yarmouth brings up memories of the Bluenose, clams on the beach on Rapie Pie that no one seems to know anything about. I also remember a man that raised mink and caught eels by throwing mink guts in the creek and using a pitch fork to catch them when they came to eat the mink guts.

Comments: A little 10 footer (the Mako on the forklift), hardley seems very troubling to me.  Ride the waves, surf and enjoy the beach.. You really are very safe.  I have been pulled, tugged, pushed and bumped on a surf board but never eaten for lunch as of yet by a shark.  Human just isn't tasty enough.

Comments: I've visited Nova Scotia about a dozen times over the past twenty years.  Whenever I arrive at Yarmouth I make it a point to drive or bike out to Cape Forchu.  I love climbing to the higher points above the lighthouse and gaze out towards the sea.  I often find, weather permitting, somewhere to sit and watch the waves crashing on the basaltic rocks and imagine myself going out to sea as a passenger on the vessels that traverse the waters.  I'll be out there again on my 73rd birthday this September 13th.

Comments: We have just returned from our first trip to Nova Scotia and Isle Madame.  To say that it was an absolutely fantastic trip would be an understatement.  Isle Madame is filled with million dollar views, I can now understand why Uncle Tony Harding took every opportunity to take that LONG trip from Massachusetts. The residents were so very friendly and helpful. The accomodations at L'Auberge Acadienne were terrific.  The "meat pie" just like my grandmother made brought back a flood of memories.  Naomi and Willard Fougere are the perfect hosts right down to the offer of tea at the kitchen table.  The icing on the cake however was meeting my father's first cousin, Marie Kehoe.  Marie's first words to me were about my grandmother: "Aunt Ina was my favorite".  Marie can't realize how happy that made me.  Thank you all for a wonderful visit.

Comments: I was impressed to find a web page devoted to Sand Beach. I have just inherited a bit of land there and am pondering what I will do with it. If I am not mistaken, it is directly across the road from the house shown in 09.jpg on page 6 of Sand Beach Photos. We call that Mrs Moore's house. No idea if that's correct or the history behind that. I am looking forward to learning more about the history of the area.

I'd love to find an aerial photo of Sand Beach but have not found one yet.

Comments: I was last in the Yarmouth area in Oct/91.
It was a long time ago, in a different life, my common law wife/girlfriend was Lawrence Clairmont's daughter, 1 of his brood of 8 children, Adeline. She has/had 4 sisters, and 3 brothers. I assume they all still reside in the Yarmouth area.
What sparked my Interet inquiry, a friend has a Little River Duck Dog, so I started a " Google" search, which led me to this site.
I have not been back to this area since that last visit. We broke up in early 1992.
Due to the nature of my job/work, I spend most of my time in the southwestern USA. I have a home-away-from-home just outside Denver, Colorado .

Take care

Comments: At first, I was thinking it couldn't be real because real sharks don't jump out of the water. Dolphins will, but not sharks. Sharks have to constantly be moving in the water in order to breathe. So I did some searching in Google to see what I could find, either an actual news article or some site like this and...well, guess what I found?

Comments: I'm certain that my father's mother and father (grandfather Rogers and grandmother Marchant) emigrated to Lynn, Massachusetts from Yarmouth, NS around 1912. My parents are gone now and although father and mother never got to see Nova Scotia, I carry them in my heart with every visit.I remember my grandmother being called squaw and speaking only French. We were told her family owned an Indian trading post on an island. Someday I will stay long enough to research my heritage.Joyce (Rogers)Driscoll

Comments: In late Sept. we are thinking of taking the CAT from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth.  Is this too far for a one day trip?  We will have to pay for our full week in Southwest Harbor no matter what we do.  If it would be better to stay overnight in Yarmouth, would there be any inexpensive places to stay?
Thanks for your help with our first trip to your area.

Comments: What are autumns like.  IT seems more like pine tree country up there.  When does summer end?  How long is autumn?  It's very hot down here in Texas right now.  Sometimes it's like I've done something very bad and been sent to hell.  Traffic in Dallas...hmmm..sludge in the air, and freeways are a total misnomer....I was in Lansing, Michigan a little over a year ago.  Traffic on the worst days were Sunday midnights here if there isn't a wreck holding you up.  It's probably much cooler up there right now and the air would not make me cough.  Enjoy your peace and clean and the wonderful clear views. God bless you all with prosperous a year followed by a more prosperous year that is happy and filled with love.
