| Most of the phosphorus was present in the
dissolved inorganic form which is not typically found in
high concentrations in aquatic ecosystems because of its
rapid assimilation by aquatic plants. This suggests that the
major source of phosphorus is most likely to be a result of
mink farm operations that utilize superphosphate, a
substance used to increase the shelf life of mink feed and
to reduce the occurrence of kidney stones in mink livestock. |
